Plumbing Adapters:
PVC plumbing adapters are fittings that connect a PVC pipe with a different polymer pipe, a metallic fixture or other equipment. Plumbers also call them PVC transition adapters because they join a PVC pipeline to other materials. For example, you need a PVC adapter to connect a pump to a PVC pipeline. Many types of adapters exist for joining pipes with various fixtures.
Different types of PVC adapters are:
- PVC Plastic threaded Adapters

PVC threaded adapters
One side of these adapters connects to the pipe. The other side has a plastic thread that connects to any kind of threaded fixture. However, we do not recommend them for hot water.
Two types exist:
- PVC male threaded adapter (MAPT)
- PVC female threaded adapter (FAPT)
PVC Brass threaded adapters
One side of a brass adapter connects to the pipe, and the other side has a brass thread for any kind of threaded fixture. The brass threads make the adapter suitable for hot water. Moreover, it suits places where you need more robust joints.
Two types exist:
- PVC male threaded brass adapter (MABT)
- PVC female threaded brass adapter (FABT)
PVC plumbing adaptors are available in:
½” (15mm), ¾” (20mm), ¾” x ½” (20x15mm), 1x ½” (25 x 15 mm), 1″ (25mm), 1¼” (32mm), 1½” (40mm), 2″ (50mm), 2½” (75mm), 3″ (90mm) and 4″ (110mm) in Schedule 80.
STANDARDS FOR PVC PIPE COUPLINGS
Keep the four standard boxes as they are (ASTM D 1784, D 2466, D 2467, D 2464). The “Pipe Fittings” link sits inside the D 2466 box.
