About Air Admittance Valve

Introduction

AIR ADMITTANCE VALVE

Air admittance valves are pressure-activated valves that allow air to enter into the drainage systems. These valves are one-way valves and allow movement of air in only one direction. The air that enters through air admittance valves prevents the siphonage of the traps.

The valve allows the air to enter only when a negative pressure builds up in the plumbing system. The closing of the valve takes place due to the gravity and there is no net pressure left for the formation of a flow.

APPLICATIONS OF AIR ADMITTANCE VALVES :

  • Floor drains
  • Washbasins
  • Bathtubs
  • Urinal pipes
  • Underground drain pipes
  • Ventilation pipes
  • Discharge pipes

Air admittance valves are considered as special fittings as they have very specialised uses and are not commonly connected everywhere.Air admittance valves available in different sizes, most common being the 2 inch air admittance valves and 4 inch air admittance valve.
