Introduction
What are CPVC fittings?
CPVC stands for Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride. Manufacturers make CPVC pipe fittings from CPVC compound by injection molding. Plumbers have trusted this strong, long-lasting material for over 50 years. The fittings join two or more CPVC pipes, change the direction of a pipeline, or connect the pipeline to bathroom fittings, tanks, pumps and valves.
Besides that, CPVC resists most aggressive chemicals and handles high temperature and pressure. For this reason, it suits residential, commercial and industrial piping, as well as fire sprinkler systems.

Threaded Joint CPVC Fittings
Threaded fittings make a mechanical joint between male and female plastic or brass threaded parts. In this case, you need only Teflon tape as a thread sealant.
Sizes of CPVC Fittings
CPVC fittings come in inch sizes. Copper Tube Sizes (CTS) include ½” (15mm), ¾” (20mm), 1″ (25mm), 1¼” (32mm), 1½” (40mm) and 2″ (50mm). In addition, Iron Pipe Sizes (IPS) in Sch 40 and Sch 80 include 2½” (75mm), 3″ (90mm), 4″ (110mm), 6″ (160mm) and 8″ (200mm).
Types of CPVC Pipe Fitting Names and Their Varieties
CPVC Plain Pipe Fitting
CPVC plain pipe fittings connect two or more CPVC pipes with CPVC solvent cement. They come in many varieties, including Tee, Reducing Tee, Elbow or bend, Reducing Elbow, 45 degree Elbow, Socket or coupler, Reducing coupler, Bushing, Step over bend, Long bend, End cap and 3-way Elbow.
CPVC Threaded Pipe Fitting
Threaded fittings join the pipe to taps, showers, pumps, tanks and other plumbing equipment. The threads can be CPVC or brass. For hot water, we usually recommend brass insert type fittings. For example, the range includes the CPVC male adaptor (MTA), CPVC female adaptor (FTA), brass tee, brass MTA, brass FTA and brass elbow.
CPVC Union
A CPVC union combines a threaded adaptor, a plain adaptor and a threaded ring. Like a socket, it connects two pipes. However, a socket makes a permanent joint, while you can remove a union easily at any time.
CPVC Valves
Valves control the flow of water. The most common types in piping systems are the CPVC ball valve and the CPVC concealed valve.
CPVC Flange
A flange joint connects pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment into a piping system. Furthermore, it gives easy access for cleaning. To make the joint, you bolt two flanges together with a gasket between them for a seal.
CPVC Tank Nipple
Tank nipples have threads on one or both ends. They usually connect the whole piping system to the overhead tank.

Manufacturers follow the American standard ASTM D 2846 for copper tube sizes. ASTM F438 covers Iron Pipe Sizes in Sch 40, and ASTM F439 covers Sch 80. In addition, India released the standard IS 17546 for CPVC fittings in 2021.
